Friday 7th May - bike ***** - Around Felixstowe including lunch with ‘Emily’ – sunny periods and milder.

At last, the temperatures are slowly raising, might even get over 20 degrees at the weekend, sadly tomorrow is looking windy there is heavy rain forecast! So nice morning at home in the warm sunshine, me doing my exercises in the back garden while Mag does some re-potting, she just loves her garden:) Then I make a salad and we head out on our bikes to see ‘Emily’ for lunch. It does not take long to leave the crowds behind, in fact it is quiet for most of the ride, just how we love it:) Past the Grove park and down Marsh Lane where the brilliant yellow rape fields look stunning. The farmer has laid some new hard core making it slow going, if ever we come into any money, I think we will treat ourselves to a couple of electric mountain bikes! Up onto the Deben river path at Kingsfleet taking it to the second turn off to Flakenham Church, we had a kestrel hunting following us along plus shell ducks, a curlew, a little disappointing considering the tide was going out and there was plenty of mud! Approaching the church Mag spots two hares in a field, our favourite and we are lucky to get our seat as the other one is taken! We spend at least an hour relaxing, having our yummy lunch watching the many birds and the two hares again, just brilliant! We had buzzards overhead, a friendly robin, Chaffinches, blackbirds, partridges and tits. The church yard is now full of my favourite Green Akenet and the cow paisley is coming along nicely and I did a couple of circuits of the church with my camera:) We continue along country lanes and footpaths to Trimley and it is a great time of year with everything looking great, the crops are coming along well, the trees with new leaves look stunning and there are flowers in the verges:) There is a bit of a breeze now which seems to always blow straight into your face! Down Grimstone Lane to our lovely tree lined route back to Felixstowe, spotting two small herds of deer. So, another top bike ride around Felixstowe seeing the best that Suffolk has to offer being out for nearly 4 hours covering 14 miles. Fingers crossed for some windsurfing over the weekend and beyond!
